Valve Shim Comparison Upper 60K Guide SHO Part Replacement Intervals FAQ
Here are some examples of worn or damaged valve shims so that you have an idea of what to look for when you do your upper 60K. Here is a shim that is cupped in the center. Although it is not damaged, shims like these should be replaced since they are worn and no longer provide the correct clearance. This shim shows some scratches. There was uneven wear on the cam lobe. This shim shows some circular wear, and more importantly some bad scratches from poor handling. (Someone scratched the shim when they removed it.)
